Personal Professor Ivan Petrović is the Head of the Department of Control and Computer Engineering, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (http://www.fer.hr), University of Zagreb (http://www.unizg.hr), Croatia. He is also the Head of the Autonomous Mobile Robotics group (AMOR group, http://act.rasip.fer.hr/groups_amor.php). He received a bachelor degree in electrical engineering in 1983, master degree in electrical engineering in 1989 and a doctoral degree in electrical engineering in 1998 from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. From 1985 to 1994 he was with the Institute of Electrical Engineering of Končar Corporation in Zagreb, where he had been working as a research and development engineer for control and automation systems of industrial plants until 1991, and later on as the head of the department for control of power converters and electrical machines. Since 1994 he has been employed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. During 25 years of research work Prof. Petrović addressed various aspects of automatic control theory and its application. In last five years his research interest focus is set to advanced control and estimation techniques with their application in control and navigation of autonomous mobile robots and vehicles. He published his research achievements as author or co-author of 25 papers in scientific journals and about 120 papers in proceedings of international conferences.

He has actively participated as a collaborator or principal investigator in more than twenty research and development projects, which were financially supported by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia and by the industry. Currently, he coordinates a major national robotics research program “Intelligent robotic systems and autonomous vehicles” (2007-2011), which involves 5 robotic research groups in Croatia. He has also participated as the leader from the Croatian side in a number of international research projects, where the most recent are: (1) “Navigation of Autonomous Mobile Robots”, Joint project with Professor Peter Kopacek, Institute for Handling Devices and Robotics, University of Technology Vienna, Austria, project duration 2004-2005; (2) “Multi-Agent Systems of Mobile Robots”, Joint project with Professor Drago Matko, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, project duration 2004-2005; (3) “Multirobot Mobile Systems with Global Computer Vision”, Joint project with Professor Drago Matko, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, project duration 2007-2008; (4) “EURON – European Robotics Research Network” (FP6-IST-2002-2.3.4.2 FET pro-actives, 2004-2008).

Prof. Ivan Petrović is a member of the Croatian Society for Communications, Computing, Electronics, Measurements and Control (KoREMA) and collaborating member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering. He is a member of international associations: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) - Chair of thee IEEE Computational Intelligence Chapter of Croatia , International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) – TC on Robotics and Federation of International Robot-soccer Association (FIRA) – Executive Committee. He is regularly a member of program and organizing committees of a number of international scientific conferences and was technical program chair of two conferences and general chair of the 4th European Conference on Mobile Robots – ECMR09 (http://www.ecmr09.fer.hr). He is also appointed to be the general chair of the 10th IFAC Symposium on Robot Control – SYROCO, which will be held in Dubrovnik in September 2012.

Professor Petrović received "Prof. dr. V. Bedjanič" prize (Ljubljana, 1990) for his master thesis, Silver Plate “Josip Lončar” (FER Zagreb, 1998) for his doctoral thesis and Annual Award “Rikard Podhorsky” (Croatian Academy of Engineering, 2008) for extraordinary research achievements in control and robotics. He also received “Best Presentation Awards in Section” on international scientific conference ISCS/IFAC Symposium on Neural Computing (Vienna, 1998).
