Brief info The project is focussed on verifying technical realisation and on patenting of protected intellectual property entitled Generator fault-tolerant control for a variable-speed variable-pitch wind turbine (PCT/HR2011/000020) created through a research work on the project MONGS -- Monitoring of Wind Turbine Generator Systems within the FP7 SEE-ERA.net Plus financing line. The following areas are in focus of the work on the project: (i) practical proof of concept of generator-fault-tolerant control of wind turbines, (ii) broadening the concept on all commonly used generator types in wind turbines, (iii) intellectual property protection, and (iv) patent commercialisation. The key characteristics of the intellectual property in question is an autonomous reaction on the diagnosed fault of the wind turbine generator which enables to stop the fault from spreading while enabling as much as possible energy production of an acceptable quality. Control methods tolerant to rotor bar faults of squirrel-cage induction generators, as well as methods tolerant to stator winding isolation faults are developed. In both cases the corresponding protection is applied based on modulation of electromechanical quantities in the electric machine. Patent claims are posed very broadly, thus protecting even sole modulation of electromechanical quantities in the machine as a method for evading a stress on the machine fault location.
