Identification Of Power System Model Parameters For Sliding Mode Based Load-Frequency Control

ABSTRACT:
The most studies of load-frequency control in power systems are done using linearized power system models. Those models may have nonlinearities within turbines and their governors, but generator dynamics and nonlinearities in tie-lines are mostly neglected. Generally, those models are only valid in the vicinity of the system’s operating point. In this paper, the behavior of an advanced load-frequency controller is tested on nonlinear power system model. The following procedure is used: firstly, by analyzing structure and response signals of the nonlinear model, parameters of the substitute linear model are obtained. Then, from the substitute linear model, sliding mode based loadfrequency controller is synthesized. Finally, the controller’s behavior is validated on the nonlinear model.
