Hierarchical wind farm control for power/load optimization

ABSTRACT:
This paper introduces the two leveled hierarchical control concept for wind farm power/load optimization. The high level controller uses the coupling between the wind turbines through the wakes to obtain the optimal wind farm operating point, while the low level controller dynamically optimizes wind farm behavior. The algorithmic solution for the low level controller is presented. To minimize the on-line computational effort the control design procedure replaces the on-line optimization with the off-line optimization approach via multiparametric programming. The simulation results of typical scenarios are reported.
